Who are they?
Every year, the dedicated staff and volunteers at Woodgreen work tirelessly to provide safe shelter, specialist care and a brighter future for thousands of pets. Based in Godmanchester, the multiple teams work together to create an individual plan for every pet under their care - including anything from medical treatment to behaviour training. And when that pet is ready, they aim to find them a loving ‘fur-ever’ home where they can go on to live a happy, fulfilling life.
The charity is also a lifeline for pet owners in need of advice and support, too. They provide courses, pet collection services and a listening ear to those who may be struggling with looking after their animal.
Why did we choose this charity?
Quite simply, for the amazing impact that they have on the lives of the animals who so badly need their help.
Additionally, we know that the rising cost of living has had a major impact on the charity. They report that the cost of a large box of wet dog food has risen by 40% from £50 to £70. The cost of specialist heat pads to warm up dangerously cold animals has risen by 47% from £15 to £22. The constant need to find an ever-increasing amount of money poses a significant threat to the work they are able to carry out, and without the generous support of the public and their corporate partners the charity would seriously struggle.
An update from our recent visit to Woodgreen Pets Charity - December 2024
Every year we visit the charity, to meet with the team and to have a look behind the scenes at many of the amazing animal areas. Going to see them is something that we really look forward to doing, as it’s always fun to find out what’s been happening - and our recent visit most certainly didn’t disappoint!
Starting at the Snowden Cat Care Centre, Aaron, our Sales Director and Sam, our Social Media Manager, met a delightful cat called Buddy. Having desperately needed an operation on arrival to remove one of his legs, little Buddy didn’t let that affect his life, and it was great to see him adapting to getting about very nimbly on just three legs.
We then moved on to the newly-renovated small animal housing area, where we got to meet lots of the recent newcomers. From rats to mice, and rabbits to guinea pigs, this area felt very festive, as many of the animals had been named after festive treats such as Gingerbread and Panettone, as well as having Christmas-themed hammocks and blankets!
Finally, we went to see the dogs - many of whom were keeping cosy in their Christmas onesies. We also got an update on an amazing dog we met last year, Lennox, who was an inquisitive but seemingly terrified large dog who had ended up at the charity through no fault of his own. We were so pleased to hear that he had been fostered soon after our previous visit, and had found his forever home just in time for Christmas in 2023. An amazing result, and a true testament to the dedication and hard work of all those involved with the charity.
The team told us that there is an ever-increasing need for their services, and that they massively rely on donations of both money, pet food and time from the public in order to continue to help the thousands of animals who need it. If you are interested in seeing how you could help, the donation page on their website can be found here.
In total, we’ve now donated £40,000 to this wonderful charity, and it was really lovely to be presented with a certificate to commemorate this. As you can see, in real terms this means our donations have a tangible impact, and it’s great to know what a difference it truly makes to the animals at the charity - from their daily care, to their vaccinations and health checks amongst other things.
It’s a real honour to support Woodgreen, and we look forward to continuing with our commitment to helping them as much as we can in the future.
