Who are they?

Every year, the dedicated staff and volunteers at Woodgreen work tirelessly to provide safe shelter, specialist care and a brighter future for thousands of pets. Based in Godmanchester, the multiple teams work together to create an individual plan for every pet under their care - including anything from medical treatment to behaviour training. And when that pet is ready, they aim to find them a loving ‘fur-ever’ home where they can go on to live a happy, fulfilling life.

The charity is also a lifeline for pet owners in need of advice and support, too. They provide courses, pet collection services and a listening ear to those who may be struggling with looking after their animal.

Why did we choose this charity?

Quite simply, for the amazing impact that they have on the lives of the animals who so badly need their help. Listed here below are a couple of reasons why we care so much, and why we love being one of their corporate partners.

Every year, we visit to see the fantastic work that they are doing. Recently, Aaron, our Sales Director and Sam, our Social Media Manager, paid a visit to see the new Snowden Cat Care Centre that has recently been built. We met with Amy, the charity’s Partnerships Manager and were shown around the amazing new buildings that include medical facilities, housing areas (some even had their own patios, called ‘catios’, for individual pets!) and a consultation area for existing and prospective cat owners. It was lovely to see up close and in person just what the kind donations from the public can really achieve.

You may have recently seen on the news the case of Nellie the Staffie, who was abandoned outside the gates of the charity in September 2023. Left alone and scared, she was lucky she didn’t get run over by a passing vehicle. Thankfully a member of staff spotted her on the CCTV, and managed to coax her inside. This story forms part of one of the charity’s most recent campaigns in order to highlight the plight of abandoned pets, and it is scary to hear that pet abandonment cases are currently at a three-year high. Sadly, not all abandoned pets are as lucky as Nellie, who due to the loving care of Woodgreen was kept safe and was ultimately re-homed with a loving new owner.

The rising cost of living has had a major impact on the charity. They report that the cost of a large box of wet dog food has risen by 40% from £50 to £70. The cost of specialist heat pads to warm up dangerously cold animals has risen by 47% from £15 to £22. The constant need to find an ever-increasing amount of money poses a significant threat to the work they are able to carry out, and without the generous support of the public and their corporate partners the charity would seriously struggle.

We’ve donated over £30,000 to them and we look forward to supporting them even further in the coming years. As you can probably tell, this charity is a cause very close to our hearts!

What can you do to help?

The charity is always on the lookout for people who would either like to adopt, foster or sponsor an animal in their care. If any of these options interest you, you can see the process for this on their website.

Alternatively, one of the of the best - and quickest - ways to support them is by purchasing something off of one of their Pet Wish Lists. These lists contain essential items such as bedding, food and toys that are so desperately needed throughout the year, and are often in short supply.

Hopefully we’ve given you a decent overview of the fantastic work they do, but if you want to find out even more about Woodgreen Pets Charity, please do visit their website.

WhizzKidz at The London Marathon 2024

We are very excited to be supporting our very own Sam to run the 2024 London Marathon for Whizzkidz. This is the UK’s leading charity for young wheelchairs users, which has provided over 10,000 young people with a life-changing wheelchair that has enabled them to participate fully in life and to live as independently as possible.

We’ll be matching her donations pound for pound, and supporting her on the day in April 2024. Watch this space to see how she got on!

Previously, we have proudly supported Macmillan Cancer Support with the MacCamping fundraising camping weekends. Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.

As well as helping with the medical needs of people affected by cancer, Macmillan also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have, and campaigns for better cancer care. Macmillan Cancer Support’s goal is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK.

You can support Macmillan with a donation or get involved by volunteering, campaigning, sharing your stories and more. For information on what they do and how to help visit their get involved page.
